
Dr. Andrew F. Alexis is a nationally recognized dermatologist and expert in treating skin conditions in populations with skin of color. Serving as Vice-Chair for Diversity and Inclusion for the Department of Dermatology and Professor of Clinical Dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, Dr. Alexis is a trailblazer in advancing dermatologic care for diverse communities.
Education and Training
Dr. Alexis earned his medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons and a Master of Public Health from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. He completed his dermatology residency at Weill Cornell Medicine and a prestigious fellowship in dermatopharmacology at NYU Langone’s Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology.
Contributions to Dermatology
Dr. Alexis’s groundbreaking work as the former Chair of the Department of Dermatology at Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West includes directing the pioneering Skin of Color Center for over 15 years. His clinical focus includes keloids, hyperpigmentation, alopecia, and other dermatologic conditions prevalent in skin of color populations. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles in top medical journals like JAMA Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology, and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
In addition to co-editing two authoritative textbooks and contributing to over 10 book chapters, Dr. Alexis is a sought-after speaker, delivering lectures at international conferences and academic institutions.
